What is Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy?
Virtual reality exposure therapy (VRET) is a technology enabled treatment approach using Virtual Reality software programmes. It is a type of treatment that uses realistic fake aversive stimuli to artificially create environments to give the client a simulated experience. This helps to increase stress resilience and control negative symptoms.
What are the Benefits to clients using VRET?
VRET is uniquely suited for targeting a variety of psychological conditions. VRET is used in treatment for phobias, anxiety disorders, addictions, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Addiction/ Relapse Prevention – Exposure to triggers enabling client (alcoholic, addicts) to learn effective coping skills and strategies to prevent relapse

What conditions does VRET work with?
Some clients are non-responsive to other forms of therapy and interventions. With VRET the client feels like they are doing something rather than watching something. As such their emotional and behavioural responses resemble real life situations. They feel immersed and like an active participant in the computer generated, 3D world, as if it were real.
